Tighter security for key embassies after New York bombing
THAI police are closely watching key embassies here after the bombing in New York City yesterday and have also tightened the screening of people entering and leaving the country, INN News reported today (Dec. 12).
Pol. Col. Krisana Pattanacharoen, a deputy spokesman at the National Police headquarters, said although Thailand is not a party in any conflict, the country is being cautious and is now undertaking surveillance of US embassy, the US Ambassador’s residence and all the US diplomats.
Both Special Branch and other police units are taking turns to ensure orderliness, he said, adding that while they are always vigilant, they have to be extra careful during Christmas and New Year festival when criminals usually start incidents.
The US embassy has not asked for extra security and the two countries continue to share information on such activities.
Thailand has also boosted measures on screening those who enter and leave the country, but so far there is no news of any unusual activity, he added.
