Fifteen charged with soccer match-fixing
NATIONAL Police Chief Chakthip Chaijinda this morning (March 13) submitted a formal request to the attorney-general to charge 15 persons allegedly involved in professional soccer match fixing, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported.
The 15 alleged offenders include six wealthy persons, a referee and eight soccer players. “This is the first legal case on professional sports handled by the National Police Office,” said Pol Gen Chakthip.
“The 3,000-page investigation file contains the names of 15 offenders, which include six match-fixing bosses, a referee, and 8 soccer players,” he added.
If found guilty, the offenders face jail terms ranging from one to ten years, and a maximum fine of 600,000 baht, or both.
