PM orders police to take legal action on protestors blocking Royal motorcade.
Anucha Bupchaisri the Government Spokesperson stated on 14 October 2020 that Prayut Chan-o-cha the Prime Minister of Thailand has ordered police officials to take legal action against protestors who blocked the Royal Motorcade. Wassana Nanuam, a Thai reporter posted on his personal Facebook update. A large group of yellow shirts who are Royalists went to the pro-democracy protests where democracy activists stood. It was clear that many of the “yellow shirts” are from the military, police, and government officials. The color is a symbol of the Thai Royal monarchy. The group surrounded the Democracy Monument all the way to the Government House.
Royalists were seen traveling to the Democracy Monument on green trucks that belong to the local district office. Many netizens criticized that it was funny how the Royalists were delivered in garbage trucks but Bangkok later stated that these green trucks are used to help accommodate citizens on special occasions. Pictures of those wearing yellow shirts standing in 6 green trucks driving on the expressway went viral on Twitter and Facebook. Mainly netizens questioned how it was possible that a truck loaded full of people standing was allowed on the expressway. The issue was later addressed by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) stated the drivers of such trucks have violated the Expressway Traffic Act because the passengers were standing in the back of the truck. The Act prohibits passengers from riding in the back of a truck on the expressway unless there is a cover and 2 rows of seats for passengers to sit down. The drivers face a fine of 1,000 THB.
Although the yellow shirts support the Royal family, some were spotted showing the 3 finger salute, which is used by democracy activists. The 3 finger salute symbolizes the resistance against the nation’s current state, led by a military-run government. It is rumored that many of the Royalists waiting to cheer the royal motorcade were there because they had to be. The motorcade was carrying Queen Suthida and Prince Dipangkorn that passed through the democracy activists and the group of royalists. Lines of Police stand strong against the democracy activists to protect the motorcade while the protesters showed the 3 finger symbol and shouted at the royal motorcade.
