Contraband seized in cash delivery van

CUSTOMS and army officers this afternoon (Oct. 28) seized contraband worth more than half a million baht from a cash delivery van in Kanchanaburi Province, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers stopped the van soon after it left the border. They found 850 cartons of foreign cigarettes, 37 bottles of whisky and 120 cans of beer worth about 530,000 baht in its rear compartment.

The truck driver and his two companions were arrested and charged with smuggling contraband into the country. They said the contraband would be delivered to another person in Nakhon Pathom Province, bordering Bangkok.
