Ministry of Justice opening 11 prisons to tourists.

Somsak Thepsuthin the Justice Minister from the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) reveals that he has given orders to the Department of Corrections to find locations intended to help develop prisons and correctional institutions by opening them up to tourists. There have been 11 prisons and correctional institutions chosen for each region of Thailand to become the first tourist destination of its kind. These prisons and institutions will allow local and foreign tourists to get an idea of what it is like inside a Thai prison, it will also help serve as a warning to the people of what happens if you violate the law.

The1st tourist destination is in the North of Thailand at the Doihang temporary prison in Chiang Rai province. The 2nd,3rd, 4th, and 5th tourist destination is in the East of Thailand at the Hueypong Open Institution in Rayong Province, Khao Mai Kaew temporary prison also in Rayong Province, Thunk Benka Open Institution in Chanthaburi Province, Khao Ra Kam Temporary Prison in Trat Province. The 6th and 7th tourist destination is in the West part of Thailand at the Khao Kling Phetchaburi Province and the Ratchaburi Central Prison in Ratchaburi Province. The 8th tourist destination is in the Northeast part of Thailand at the Khao Prik Prison in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The 9th and 10th tourist destination is in the Southern part of Thailand at the Riang Hong Temporary Prison in Trang Province and the Ban Na Wong Open Institution in Patthalung Province. The 11th and last tourist destinations are in the Central part of Thailand at the Ayutthaya Prison.

The development of prisons and correctional institutions by opening them up to tourists is part of a project called “Return good people to society, I will reach the final goal”. The people who will benefit from the project are the prisoners who will receive opportunities to join in training aimed towards personal development and gain access to career opportunities. They will have a higher chance of landing a job once or the opportunity to own a business once they return to society. Hopefully, all prisons and correctional institutes in Thailand will join the project in the future.
