Oriental Spa marks 25th anniversary with a new menu

LOCATED alongside the Chao Phraya River far away from the city din, the Oriental Spa is housed in a classical Thai-style 4-storey building made from golden teak wood. Each of the 10 private rooms promises relaxation and renewal upon entering their doors. The Oriental Spa is the first spa to open within a hotel property in Bangkok. Since its opening debut in 1993, the award-winning Spa has been widely recognized as a pioneer in the Thai spa industry. It was named the first Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Recommended spa in the Kingdom and has maintained this award for 4 consecutive years since 2015.

The year 2018 marks the 25^th anniversary of the Oriental Spa. To commemorate this a new menu has been launched that features the “Essence of Thailand” treatments – “Spirit of Isaan” and “Lanna Ceremony”. They draw upon ancient traditional Thai techniques from the North and Northeast regions to deliver comprehensive 2.5 hour treatments for discerning guests who want to experience the most out of the country’s rich traditions.

Mandarin Oriental’s signature spa therapies have been devised to address guests’ increasing desire for simple, effective and authentic spa experiences. Every treatment begins with a private therapist consultation to determine each individual’s personal and current state of wellbeing. The treatment and oils are then tailored to each guest in order to leave the body, mind and spirit in perfect harmony. Guests can unwind after each treatment in our relaxation lounge and are also provided with nutritional and exercise guidance, to extend the beneficial effects of the program at home.

SPIRIT OF ISAAN

A beautiful ritual incorporating natural elements of Thailand. Black sticky rice, coarse coffee beans and jasmine rice soap all come together for an indulgent detoxifying body wrap and exfoliation. Next is a rhythmic Oriental bamboo massage. This specialized massage kneads and stretches away any tension, leaving you with a deep sense of relaxation. After your treatment, time is set aside for you to enjoy a “go green” detoxifying juice. You will also be presented with a gift of embedded loofah soap, for you to continue your ritual at home. Treatment includes: Body Scrub, Body Wrap, Head Massage and Oriental Bamboo Massage

LANNA CEREMONY

“Tok sen” draws inspiration from northern Thai culture, and reveals the hidden treasures of Chiang Mai’s beauty rituals. The ceremony begins with a herbal foot bath infused with fresh miang, a popular healing herb from this part of the country. Then, a luxurious herbal bath prepares the body for the Oriental body scrub. The ceremony continues with a body wrap using fang, another local ingredient, to awaken and refresh the skin. A Lanna massage finishes this experience. The body is tapped rhythmically with a stick made from the bark of a tamarind tree. This relaxes the muscles in preparation for a warm herbal oil massage and warm herbal compresses for the feet.

MUAY THAI

Muay Thai is a traditional form of boxing that can be used to develop muscle strength, confidence and a spirit of sportsmanship. The Muay Thai Massage is a passive form of deep oil massage emulating typical Muay Thai movements, including kicks and punches, along with a massage that uses elbows and knees to provide a deep sense of invigoration and rejuvenation.

The massage relaxes the muscles, promotes better circulation, speeds up the removal of uric acid and other toxins, and raises mood and awareness.

ORIENTAL HARMONY

Four hands work in perfect unison in a remarkable experience that inspires a harmony of the senses, two therapists work together in time and movement. First providing a warm scrub that soothes the skin and later a harmonious massage that balances the body. Ideal for those suffering from Jet Lag.

MOROCCAN THERAPY

2 hours THB 5,800++ (THB 6,827 net.)

Designed to revive the energy in the body and release tension, this treatment begins with a thorough cleanse followed by a scrub of whipped foam mixed with ground olive pits to help polish and exfoliate the skin. Marine mud is applied to the body to absorb impurities. A homemade unique product featuring natural herbal ingredients is applied to the hair for nourishment before one enters the steam bath. This is the very first such bath in Bangkok. It is based on the ancient Moroccan principles of heat, water, earth and air to create a sense of total wellbeing.
