Citizens wait overnight in hopes of getting tested for Covid-19.

Citizens wait overnight on the sidewalk by the road for free Covid-19 testing. The people had to sleep overnight in rain and a storm of mosquitoes. The Covid-19 testing took place in front of Wat Phra Si Mahathat temple. Sanook News reported on 7 July 2021 as people continued to set up spots on the sidewalk. They had to arrive early to get in queue for free Covid-19 testing. The testing is taking place from 08.00-16.00 on 5-11 July 2021 for Thai citizens. Many of those waiting to get tested revealed they are high-risk individuals as they had come into direct contact with Covid-19 cases.

Some of them had tried to get tested for Covid-19 several times at other locations but they never got tested. They heard about the free testing at the temple but there are a lot of people waiting so they have no choice but to camp overnight in hopes of finally getting tested. Because each person wanting to get tested for Covid-19 has a chance of being infected, it is an even higher risk when gathered all in one location overnight. The security guard at the temple stated there have been people gathering at the temple at sunset. Officials will start handing out queue cards at 6 am with a limit of 900 persons getting tested per day.

Because of the limit, throughout the past 2-3 days many persons have had to go home. On 8 July 2021 at 08.25 the 900 persons limit was reached. Many persons who did not get the queue card had to return home. The first person in queue had been waiting since 18.00 of the previous day. As for the latest Covid-19 numbers in Thailand there are 7,058 new cases today bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in Thailand to 308,230 cases.
