Taxi driver with Coronavirus tells his story.
The taxi driver who is the first-ever human-to-human transmission in Thailand of the Coronavirus tells his side of the story after he is now safe to go home. He speaks with tears while revealing the moment doctors confirmed he had Coronavirus. The taxi driver also states that he doesn’t hate Chinese tourists.
There are currently 25 Novel Coronavirus patients in Thailand, 9 have healed and have returned home while 16 are still under medical care. 549 are on watch with symptoms within the criteria of the virus, 48 came in from screening at the airport and 501 came to the hospitals themselves, 124 have been confirmed safe to return home.
The latest case to return home is the taxi driver, the test for Coronavirus is now negative. The driver had delivered Chinese tourists and started having a fever. When he became sick the driver stayed home wearing a medical mask. He visited the hospital and doctors from the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute confirmed that the driver had been infected and since then have taken close care of the patient.
Kritsada Harnbarnjerd, M.D. and Anutra Rattanaratorn, M.D. from the institute reported on 5 February 2020 stating that the patient was sent in on 28 January 2020. He was exhausted from coughing so much and needed extra oxygen. After 2-3 days chest X-rays confirmed that he was getting better. Tests for the virus came out negative on 31 January and since then they have tested 2 more times confirming that he has made a full recovery.
The taxi driver stated in tears that he appreciates all the help and he is now happy again. He feels strong enough to run around the institute. When he realized the Coronavirus got him tears ran down his face. The driver wondered how his family would be because he is the main caretaker. He wishes to send a message to other drivers and public workers to take care of yourself, don’t worry too much about finding money because if you become sick then there will be no income at all. Beg your passengers to wear masks if something seems off and if you’re sitting behind the wheel then always wear a mask.
The driver stated “The Coronavirus didn’t make me hate Chinese tourists. I feel like we are all living in the same world. I drive a taxi, my income is from the tourists, because of them I can take care of my family. I feel sad when I see pictures of those who are sick in China. I wish the best for all in Wuhan, to keep fighting and to win like me”.
