10 million baht counterfeit haul in Phuket

ACTING on complaints from tourists that the counterfeit designer goods they bought in Phuket were of poor quality a team of officials and security officers raided a warehouse at Patong beach and seized 10 million baht worth of these fake products last night, Thai News Agency said today (August 30).

At 9 pm last night Group Captain Bavorn Phromkaewngarm, deputy director of Internal Security in Phuket, took a team of policemen from Patong station plus navy officers, soldiers and commerce officials to raid the warehouse off Patong beach road and seized a large array counterfeit luxury goods.

Among the 7,000 pieces of fake big-brand merchandise were handbags, belts, sneakers and clothes worth over 10 million baht.

Police arrested Mr Dambha Du, 31, a Nepalese with a Myanmar work permit and Mr Lam, 34, a Vietnamese who claimed to be the owner of the warehouse and took them to Patong station for further legal action.

Mr Bavorn said there had been a lot of complaints from tourists who had bought these fake products and found that there were of bad quality and also complaints from representatives of these big brands in Thailand.
