Bhutan shares the heart with Thais

October 26, 2017 – Bhutan’s Thimphu city held special prayers for His Majesty the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej as the kingdom’s King and Queen attended the Royal Cremation ceremony in Thailand.

The prayers were broadcast live on Bhutan King’s Facebook page (facebook.com/KingJigmeKhesar) in conjunction with the ceremony in Thailand. The event was presided over by a religious leader and held at Kuensel Phodrang, a giant Buddha statue in the capital city Thimphu.

At the same time in Bangkok, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck were among the members of 16 foreign royal families who appeared at the ceremony last night to offer their last respects and farewell to HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

In the broadcast, the King of Bhutan was seen wearing a brooch pin in the shape of traditional Thai number nine on his chest.

Their Majesties King Jigme and Queen Jetsun are both recognized and popular among the Thai people due to a well-known admiration and respect King Jigme has shown for HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s way of life, work, philosophy, teachings and examples.

The details which appeared on King Jigme’s Facebook page were as follows:

“His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen are attending the Royal Cremation ceremony, to offer last respects to HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

“The people of Bhutan stand with the people of Thailand to mourn the great loss, and commemorate the extraordinary legacy, of a beloved King.”

“To the Incomparable, Visionary and Most Precious Jewel King, the King of Thailand, who attained Parinirvana, I would like to offer my deepest respect, and my heartfelt prayers. May Your Majesty always be born as Dharma Raja, to the benefit of all sentient beings.
