Chiang Mai University closing down for two days due to the pollution.
Chiang Mai University has announced on the 13th of this month that classrooms will be closed for 2 days from the 14th to the 15th. The University has also come out with 4 regulations to help students, professors, and university staff to deal with the horrible air pollution including PM2.5 particles that have made Chiang Mai the worst polluted city in the world by Air Visual.
There will be no classes on both days all day to minimize students and professors from the exposure of the pollution in the air. Hopefully, there will also be less pollution output from the vehicles used to travel. Chiang Mai reached an AQI level of over 200 on the 12th making the air pollution extremely dangerous for your health.
The other 3 regulations announced by the Chiang Mai University include closing down any outside activities in the university such as the football field, the university advises students and university members to wear masks when necessary, especially outdoors, and the head of each department can allow staff under their command to take days off as they seem necessary.
The Mae Hong Son Airport was covered with dust fog as a result of the wildfire that was taking place in the surrounding areas. There were at least 30 passengers stuck at the Chiang Mai Airport and also at the Mae Hong Son Airport after having their flights delayed or canceled as it was not safe to land in Mae Hong Son Airport.
On the 13th of this month, the average PM2.5 AQI at the Chiang Mai Government Center was 139, this is 3 times the standard level of 50. The PM10 average measurement was at 180 and stands behind Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as the third city with the worst air pollution (AQI) on the planet.
