Durian seller caught fixing weighing scale

A durian seller in Bangkok has been arrested and charged with fixing his weighing scale to get more money from clients, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported yesterday (May 14, 2020).

The Internal Trade Department (ITD) took action after having received several complaints from buyers.  An ITD official in plainclothes bought a durian from the merchant and then weighed it, with the scale showing a weight of two kilograms.

The official then produced a brand-new weighing machine and put the same durian on it, with the scale showing 1 kilogram.

The merchant was later taken to Chanasongkram Police Station, where he faces seven-year imprisonment and a fine of no more than 280,000 baht.
