Elephant enters kitchen during the night.
An elephant visits a kitchen during the night. The owner reveals this is not the first time this specific elephant has visited her kitchen. The kitchen is located right next to a forest in Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The residents have not heard from any related official’s sectors regarding the elephant visiting the kitchen at nighttime or whether it poses as a danger. A Facebook user named “Ratchawan Puengprasopporn” posted pictures of the elephant in her kitchen on 20 June 2021. The pictures showed the elephant’s head in the kitchen. There is a large opening big enough for the elephant to enter if wanted to.
Ratchawan stated in the post “it comes everyday”. The home is in Hua Hin, a big travel city in Thailand popular for its tropical feel with the beautiful beaches. The elephant stuck its head in the kitchen but did not do any harm. The elephant comes to her home often because it is located right next to Pa La U a big forest in Hua Hin. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) provided information that the elephant is visiting the kitchen because it is looking for food and it may lack nutrients. Because of this, the animal is simply searching for food to continue living.
The department also promised to help repair the home as the big hole in the wall is a result of the elephant breaking in. The DNP visited the home and posted the pictures on their official Facebook Page regarding the incident. Pattarapon Maneeon a veterinarian from the DNP also visited the home with goals to help the homeowner and residents. The veterinarian stated the most likely cause is because of the food smell coming from the kitchen every day, because the location is so close to the big forest.
The elephant was simply searching for salt, a necessary mineral for the survival of elephants just like many other mammals. The DNP, the Kaeng Krachan National Park and other related sectors have set up a meeting to find a solution for the family. The main importance is the safety of both the elephant and humans. Where humans can now be found in almost every area, it is important to find a balance between modernization and nature. Animals that happen to show up in homes are usually simply searching for food as they want to survive. For other living creatures they must hunt and search to survive. As humans we work for money then use that as a means of survival, but we must also remember that animals also have their own methods of living, whenever possible, it is better to understand than to oppose or worse, to kill.
