Huge crowds of mourners pay their last respects

TENS of thousands of mourners lined the route from Siriraj hospital to the Grand Palace through which the procession bearing the body of His Majesty the King passed to pay their respects and to bid farewell to their beloved late monarch, Thai PBS said

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn was at the Chalerm Phrakiat building to take the lead in bringing the King’s body to Phra Pimarn Rattaya Throne Hall in the Grand Palace. All members of the Royal Family, including Her Majesty the Queen who was not seen in public for quite some time, were in the procession.

Somdet Phra Wannarat, the abbot of Wat Bovornnives Vihara, led a procession to bring the King’s body from the Chalerm Phrakiat building into a car followed by the medical team of doctors and nurses who were involved in providing treatment to the King while he was at the hospital.

Many mourners kept vigil at the hospital since Thursday night in order not to miss the chance to pay their respects to their beloved monarch. Several others openly wept as the procession moved through the route.

Elsewhere at the provincial halls, symbolic bathing rites were held for mourners to pay respects before the portraits of the King.

Millions more Thais who could not come to the Siriraj hospital and the procession route watched live TV broadcast of the procession at their homes.
