Living and coping with durian-loving elephants

Durian trader Siriporn Kerdsuchon is considering finding a new storage location after a male elephant broke down a new steel door and ate more than 10 durians in her warehouse, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported yesterday (July 9, 2020).

“I spent 12,000 baht installing the steel door on July 7, but the elephant returned and broke it down,” said Mrs. Siriporn.

Many other durian growers also have to cope with the same problem, but accept it as a way of life.

“I have lived here for more than 15 years and, like other durian growers, I have already learned to live with these elephants,” said a durian grower.
