Monkeypox patient escapes from Hospital.

The first monkeypox case in Thailand escapes from the hospital. There are 6 more high-risk individuals who may have monkeypox. Doctor Opad Karnkawinpong from the Department of Disease Control reported the case on 22 July 2022. Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headaches, throat pain, and spots on the body, arms, legs, hands, feet, and private parts. Provincial health offices are putting in place safety protocols against monkeypox. Phuket Province received a report from a hospital in Phuket about a 27-year-old man from Nigeria with monkeypox symptoms. The man has spots all over his body and was examined for monkeypox.

The sample was sent to Chulalongkorn Hospital and was confirmed positive. Another sample was sent to the Department of Medical Sciences. Because this is a new virus 2 labs must confirm the results. The doctor stated “we started investigating the case before results were confirmed positive. We found 2 high-risk individuals who were friends with the patient. They did not have any symptoms and test samples are now sent to the lab. Results are currently still negative but we must keep a watch on them in quarantine for 21 days. We have also inspected high-risk locations. This includes 2 entertainment businesses that the patient has visited. We found 6 high-risk individuals with monkeypox symptoms. 4 of them have been examined and the results are negative. Results have not come out yet for the other 2.

The information shows that most patients are men, we believe it may be from coming into contact with a patient. There is a lot of virus on the spots. Most don’t get the virus through air but from being in close contact. Many believe through sexual activities but we must wait for WHO to confirm this information because there are not many patients globally at this time”. The Phuket health officials will report more information on the escape of the patient. The doctor states this is not a deadly disease and is harder to get. The quarantine period for the virus is longer than Covid-19 currently set at 21 days.
