Police beef up security for Songkran

TRAFFIC police were mobilized to ensure safety, especially on the roads, during the Songkran festival today (April 11) while two new applications, Police I Lert U and Getvan Booking, were also introduced to alert the authorities in case of emergencies, Thai News Agency said.

City Police Chief Pol. Lt. Sanit Mahathavorn presided over the release of mobilized Metropolitan traffic police to ensure safety all around, particularly on the roads, during Songkran.

Meanwhile Deputy City Police Chief Pol. Lt. Jirapat Poomjit linked up with the Traffic Police Division and PTT Plc to launch an online campaign to reduce road accidents during Songkran with the public encouraged to inform the police of any emergencies via the new application, Police I Lert U, and for those using public vans through Getvan Booking.

Another application, Getvan Driver, is for public van operators and drivers to join in and share information about the driver, the location of the van, the van’s speed and the route it is taking so that passengers and traffic police can follow them.

Around 4,000 public vans have already joined in and there are 200 prizes for the best drivers with these being petrol coupons worth over 250,000 baht.
