Russian man in car crash after practicing boxing

A YOUNG Russian man tired from practicing Thai boxing and driving a car in the middle of the night to go pick up his father-in-law from Phuket Airport slammed into another sedan and seriously injured the driver, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

The accident, which took place at 1 am this morning and occurred on Ao Po road near Ao Po pier in Thalang district, left Mr Samrern Chuayniyom, 38, a native of southern Phathalung province who was driving a Honda City sedan with serious chest injuries, and he was quickly taken to Bangkok Phuket Hospital.

The young Russian, Mr Alexander Prokhodnoy, 31, who was driving a Mercedes Benz ML 250, said he suddenly felt drowsy when he reached the area where the accident took place because he was fatigued from practicing Thai boxing, and when he came to again his car had hit that of the victim’s. He was slightly injured.

The Honda City’s engine was badly damaged and the left front tire torn, and within 2 air bags had opened through the force of the collision. The Mercedes Benz’s bumper was damaged and its left tire also ripped.

Police checked Prokhodnoy for alcohol consumption and found that he had not had any so are filing a charge of reckless driving  leading to another person being injured and damaging his property.
