Van drove into Udom Suk BTS, driver admits he doze off while driving.
A white Toyota van drove into the Udom Suk BTS stairs located on the walkway by the road. The driver later admitted with the local rescue team that he had accidentally dozed off while driving the van. The driver stated that the traffic was moving slowly when he dozed off, he realized what had happened when the van drove head first onto the walkway into the stairs. (March 10, 2019)
When the driver dozes off into a state of trance, he lost total control of the van as it headed into one of the Udom Suk BTS stairs by crashing head first into the back of the stairs. The Udom Suk BTS station is located on the Sukhumvit road, one of the major roads of Bangkok and Thailand.
Although the van had a very intense crash into the stairs, luckily no one was killed in the accident including the driver who was injured but safe. The local rescue team was notified right away, where the rescue team and the ambulance came within a few minutes as the road needed to be cleared right away. There is normally heavy traffic in the area, the accident was impacting the road, causing even longer lines of traffic.
The 28-year-old male driver was conscious when the rescue team arrived. The driver stated to the officers that he doze off and lost awareness for a moment while he was driving the van, the vehicle then went out of control and drove onto the walkway crashing headfirst into the BTS stairs.
One of the first thought that might come up when reading the title of this news maybe whether the man was drunk on alcohol or was he under the influence of some other substance. The rescue officer at the accident reported that the man seems to be fully aware of what was happening and his breath seemed to be free of alcohol. As soon as first aid was performed on the driver to make sure that he was safe, an ambulance then helped deliver the man to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
