Serbs held over Rayong ATM theft
THREE Serbian nationals were arrested in southern Surat Thani province on the charges of having broken into an ATM in eastern seaside Rayong city earlier this month and getting away with 100,000 baht, Sanook.com reported today (Sept 25, 2018).
Police officers from Kanchanadit police station, Police Forensic Science Center 8 and Immigration department arrested the trio at a resort in Kanchandit district at 3 p.m. yesterday.
They were identified at Mr Ninas Akhoic, 65, Mr Laf Nikolic, 51 and Miss Milika Lukhic, 42 (names translated as written in Thai).
Seized from them were 2 gas cylinders, 2 oxygen tanks, 2 levers, a pair of pliers, a rented car, gloves and camouflage outfits.
While some of the equipment had not been used, police believe the suspects were going to use them in new ATM thefts.
Their passports showed that they came to Thailand on September 4, and they are suspected to have tried to break open a Krung Thai Bank ATM on September 14, but failed. They then allegedly tried again the next day on September 15, and got away with 100,000 baht.
Police said they hid in many places but finally ended up in Surat Thani where they were arrested. They were able to track them down through the vehicle’s GPS system.
Rayong police will be coming down to Surat Thani to take the foreign suspects back to their city where investigation will be expanded to find out whether they were linked to other ATM attacks.
