19 gamblers held in online gambling raid

AUTHORITIES raided an online gambling den in Pinklao area and rounded up 19 gamblers as well as seizing several computers, Thai News Agency said today (March 17).

 A team of soldiers and police officers went to check an unnumbered single-story building behind a department store in Soi Charansanidwong 40 in Bang Yi Khan area of Bang Phlat district after finding out that gambling was secretly taking place there.

When the team entered the building they red-handedly caught 19 punters, 13 men and six women, gambling online and arrested all of them while also seizing 17 computers.

During questioning at Bang Yi Khan police station one of the gamblers admitted being the dealer and said when the raid took place all of them were gambling online but points had not been totaled for settlement. Police are now hunting for the owner.

Pol. Lt. Col. Athawut Niwat Sophon, superintendent of Bang Yi Khan police station, said this building is secluded and no one was living there until recently. Police investigated and found out that someone had rented it from the owner, renovated it and brought in a lot of computers with this being a bit suspicious. Moreover lots of people started visiting this building and that is why it was raided and online gambling uncovered.
