The 4th meeting of the Global Congress on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats takes place in Thailand on 16 October 2023. The meeting took place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok. This congress is led by INTERPOL in partnership with a network of over 1,500 experts worldwide focusing on threats of chemical and explosives terrorism. The global congress was started in 2018 by INTERPOL, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). This congress is also in cooperation with the G7 Global Partnership against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction.
The meeting was joined by Police Lieutenant General Prachuap Wongsuk the Assistant Commissioner General as the chairman of the meeting. Some members who joined the meeting include Mr. Greg Hinds from INTERPOL and Mrs. Catherine Colthart from INTERPOL. This is the first year that Thailand has held a meeting for the congress with cooperation from INTERPOL. The general reported that this is an international meeting focusing on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats. The congress recognizes the importance of fighting against the spread of weapons and mass destruction weapons that can affect the public security of nations worldwide.
The Royal Thai Police, as law enforcement in Thailand has discovered that criminals and terrorists have developed themselves to avoid detection and enforcement. They have been using technology to commit crimes. Examples are using 3D printers to make weapons, AI backed organized crime and more. Experts in the chemical field with no criminal records are also involved further helping crime organizations find ways to avoid detection by law enforcement. The meeting was joined by experts from 84 member nations, to reach the mission.
