Big Python snake visits Prison Camp in Yala

A big python snake has visited a prison camp in Yala Province. In Thailand it is believed that having pet geese will keep away the snakes, this story proves that this belief isn’t true as the giant snake was found sleeping in the prison’s goose shed. The incident took place on 23 September 2020 at the Thun Pu Poh Prison Camp in Yarom Sub-district, Betong District, Yala Province. The local Sawang Betong Tham Rescue Team was notified of a big python snake hiding in the prison camp. Prisoners and officers were terrified of the snake.

The local rescue team went to the location and found the python relaxing in the prison’s geese shed. 5 members of the rescue team, each an expert of catching wild snakes, took over an hour to finally capture the beast. It was a male python about 4.20 meters long and weighed over 23 kilograms. Amnaj Bunknamkum 42-year-old an officer at the prison stated that he worked as a prison caretaker. After the prisoners lined up to sing the national anthem in the morning he walked to the geese shed. A group of prisoners was going to practice raising geese as part of their training for life after prison.

Amnaj arrived at the shed and heard the geese screaming in fear. He went inside the shed and believed there was probably a cat inside. His suspicions were confirmed false when the big python was spotted sleeping in the shed. The local rescue team was notified and the snake was finally secured an hour after the team arrived. Thanks to the local rescue team prisoners and officers at the prison camp can continue taking care of the geese without fear of being attacked by the giant snake. The Python is now safe and will be released back into nature.
