Heat wave hits Tak as dam reservoirs at critical level

The northern province of Tak is facing a serious water shortage as a heatwave hits farmers and their cattle have to walk more than five kilometers to reach water sources, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported yesterday (April 23, 2020).

The maximum temperature measured at Tak’s Muang District this afternoon was 43.5 degrees Celcius.

Tak’s irrigation director Boonlert Boonpakong said all three dam reservoirs have about 30 percent of water.

“We have to save water as much as we can,” he said. “A portion of water in our reservoirs is saved for producing tap water.”

Farmers have switched to growing vegetables that do not need a lot of water.
