Students forced to climb damaged elevated walkway

Pictures of a broken elevated walkway have surfaced online showing students climbing on the stairs that appear to be half crushed. There was a recent road accident involving a truck that crashed into the walkway that is used to cross the road. The road is a multiple lane road, 4 lanes on each side of the road with a total of 8 lanes making it too dangerous for young students to cross the road without the help of the elevated walkway.

The pictures were shared on a Facebook Page dedicated to citizens of Phuket Province. The damaged elevated walkway is located in Koh Kaew District. A large delivery truck crashed straight into the walkway on 14 December 2019. Since the accident took place, young children and civilians have no choice but to carefully climb over the crushed stairs that lead up the elevated walkway as there is no other option to reach the other side of the road.

The elevated walkway is right in front of a local school. One of the main travel options to and from the school is by public transportation that parks on the opposite side of the road. A number of students that travel to and from school by themselves without parents have to find their own solution to the unseen result from the accident.

Netizens have commented that it may be a good idea for traffic police to guide the cars so that the students can avoid using the walkway, but netizens living in the area revealed that because there are a total of 8 lanes on a straight road it is impossible to safely do so from so many fast cars and motorcycles. There are also comments stating that the broken concrete remains on the ground since the accident took place.
