Wild elephants smash wall to eat durians

SOME wild elephants smashed an agricultural cooperative wall in Hua Hin at 3 am this morning (August 14) to feast on durians stored there for sale, Thai News Agency said.

Driven by hunger and getting whiffs of the world’s smelliest fruit the wild jumbos strolled in and knocked down the wall of a building at Huai Sat Yai Agricultural Cooperative after which they ate up 40 durians while stamping on a few others and also damaging a temperature control equipment.

Mana Phermphoon, head of Kaeng Krachan National Park, said the elephants got the smell because  lots of durians had been stored there as they were about to be sold.

Park and forestry officials helped by soldiers are now repairing the damaged wall.
